Pittsburgh Penguins 2009 Stanley Cup Champions

Det är väl i sin ordning att börja dagen med att gratulera Maxime Talbot och hans Pittsburgh till Stanley Cup bucklan. Inte vilka jag ville se vinna, men what the hell. Zetterberg är visst lite deppig. Jaså, det säger ni? Jag skulle va vansinnig... tänk att vara så nära och sen är det bara kört helt plötsligt.

Nu är det läge att Heatley får gå till nåt bättre lag till nästa säsong så pojkspolingen kan få vinna cupen nångång. Det är han värd!

En fundering dök upp... vem fasen var Stanley? Var tvungen att Googla detta:

Lord Frederick Arthur Stanley var tydligen engelsman och föddes 1841. En adelsman av rang, med många titar: Right Honorable Sir Frederick Arthur Stanley, Earl of Derby, Baron Stanley of Preston, in the County of Lancaster, in the peerage of Great Britain, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honorable Order of the Bath. Sen flyttade han av nån anledning till Ottawa och fick en idé:

"I have for some time been thinking that it would be a good thing if there were a challenge cup, which would be held from year to year by the leading hockey club in the Dominion," Stanley wrote. "Considering the general interest which hockey matches now elicit, and the importance of having the game played fairly and under rules generally recognized, I am willing to give a cup which shall be held from year to year by the winning club."

Det ursprungliga namnet på cupen var Dominion Hockey Challange Cup och de första som vann trofén var Montreal Amateur Athletic Association 1893. Sen dog tydligen hans bror och Lord Stanley fick hasta hem til England för att ta över brorsans titlel som the Sixteenth Earl of Derby. Även detta hände 1893 och Lord Stanley fick själv ens aldrig se nån match i sin cup. Han dog 1908.
